Hills, waterfalls, root bridges, clear water pools, you find everything there!
The crisp clear mountain air, verdant countryside, cascading waterfalls, crystal clear emerald rivers and dramatic cliffs compensated the fatigue of traffic on this five-day trip to the state. Even a week seemed to fall short to cover all the highlights of the state, so we concentrated on some of the most prominent ones like the Nohkalikai Falls, living root bridges, Umngot River, Mawlynnong and of course, Shillong.

Itinerary
As soon you reach Guwahati station/airport, an agent’s representative will greet and escort you to Shillong. On arrival, you will check in to the hotel and freshen up. On the way, visit the placid Umiam Lake, outlined by Sylvan hills. Once you reach Shillong, check in to the hotel and relax.
The rest of the day is at leisure that you can enjoy as your heart desires
Mawlynnong Savor breakfast and be prepared to visit Mawlynnong Village that is credited for being the cleanest village in Asia. Here, visit the Living Root Bridge and watch the natural balancing rock that presents a peculiar natural phenomenon of a boulder balancing on another rock. Don’t miss put on the sight of Indo-Bangladesh Border from here.
Kongthong is a small village situated away from the world in the lap of nature in the remote Khasi hills. Kongthong is also known as the whistling village, where tunes are used instead of names.
The tune is unique to each child. The lullaby has no words; it is only a kind of hum that only the villagers are able to comprehend! Isn’t it so fascinating? At Kongthong, you just need to relax and enjoy nature and then try to learn the tunes of the villagers. Maybe, you can compose one tune for yourself too!
Dawki En route, the gurgling waterfalls present an enthralling sight. In the town, you will be greeted by the Umngot River, which is believed to be cleanest of the country and had crystal clear waters. A boat ride on these waters is an amazing experience. After an enjoyable day, return to the hotel in Shillong for a peaceful sleep.
Make your Pick!
Nohkalikai Waterfall was first on the list of sights to see. This is the highest plunge waterfall in India at 1115 feet. It tumbles down a large bed of rocks, frothing and leaping furiously down to a pool, leaving a haze of mist.
Next, go down to the Arwah-Lumshynna caves in Cherrapunji. The scenic walk from the parking to the Arwah-Lumshynna cave system, with a view of the plunging valley on the right, was a staggering sight to behold. Inside the caves, the stalagmites and stalactites drooped from the roof of caves.
The river is so clean that one can see the riverbed with naked eyes and it seems that the slim local boats are floating mid-air on the surface – a photograph that has repeatedly cemented the destination’s allure on the Internet in the last few years.
Riverside fun over, head to the famous Living Roots Bridge of Meghalaya en-route Bangladesh border at Dawki. After almost two hours of driving and a few hundred steps down, the living root bridge of Rwai emerged. This intricate network of roots is built over decades by the village elders and is said to have a life span of over 500 years. After marveling at the genius work of the locals, we started walking towards the Maw Ryngkew Sharatia, or the ‘balancing rock’ located just before Mawlynnong village. It embodies a strange natural phenomenon of a boulder precariously balancing on another rock.
Let's take things slow on the last day of our trip, With no concrete agenda, drove along the lush countryside from Shillong or chill at our homestay.
Reach Guwahati. Visit the Alfresco Cruise Ride that will take you to the middle of the River Brahmaputra. Later, drop to the airport.
