But before you go ahead and read this, there are few we would like you to know.

Make your first stop at the Guhaghar beach about 2 hours away from Dapoli. Though the beach is slightly more commercial than the others, what piqued this traveller’s interest is the Guhaghar village. After lunch at Guhaghar get back on your journey and make one final pit stop on the way, very close to Ratnagiri at a place called ‘Prachin Konkan’ Stay at an ancestral home built on Indian values and culture. Little things like removing your footwear as you enter the house or sitting down for a meal together etc, like rules of any Indian home, are also followed here. The food is typically of the Kokansatha Bramhan community.
The fort spans over a whopping 120 acres and from an aerial view, looks like a horse’s foot. The fort offers many things for the visitor to see. For instance, you can go pay your respects at the shrine of Goddess Bhagwati (that’s why the fort is often known as Bhagawati Durga Fort). Temples dedicated to Lord Ganesha and Hanuman are here as well. On the other side, you can find a lighthouse which makes for beautiful pictures with the sea in the backdrop, but the most exciting and interesting about the fort is the secret cave housed under the fort. Cool, no? It is said that that tunnel was built to adjoin the upper and lower fort and make a pathway from the fort to the sea
Perhaps one of the most interesting facts about Ratnagiri is that a Burmese King died here while he was in exile at the Thibaw Palace, built by the Britsh in Ratnagiri. According to reports, it so happened that due to the ‘tremendous reverence of King Thibaw by the people of Burma, the British were prudent to remove him quickly and permanently off Burmese soil. For a wholesome lunch, head to Ratnagiri’s most popular restaurant at the Anand Hotel that is known for its exquisite fish fry cooked to perfection and drizzled with chaat masala. Their mutton gravy is quite delectable as well and is best with Bhakri.
