Venetians have been working in crystal and glass since the 10th century but due to the fire hazards of glass blowing, the industry was moved to the island of Murano in the 13th century.
We will discover how glass is created from sand and how Muranese glass blowers developed their skills over the centuries to reach the highest quality standards and the most incredible colours and shapes. Trade secrets were so jealously guarded that any glass worker who left the city was guilty of treason and subject to assassination!
Without risking my life, I will describe you the different techniques and artistic results, visiting also the oldest glass factory in the world.
At the end of the experience a local artisan will create venetian beads using the lamp-work technique just for you! And if you wish so, we could send them per parcel to your home address!
